Exam Preparation
To examine means, “To test the knowledge of.” At Trusted Tutors we prepare students for exams by:
1. Helping them to understand the curriculum and topics listed by the school or exam board.
2. Giving students an orientation to the exam itself, including teaching them all relevant exam techniques and timings and included in this is plenty of past paper practice.
In this way, students become fully familiar and confident with the curriculum and what they will be doing on the exam day.
We provide specialist tuition & advice for pupils taking the 7+, 11+, 13+, GCSE, iGCSE, International Baccalaureate and A-level exams.
We also prepare students for Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 SATs, entrance exams for specific schools including verbal and non-verbal reasoning as well as tuition for Adult professional qualification exams.
We can also provide assessments in maths, English and science at all levels.
7+
The 7+ examination is used to select students for Year 3 entry into top prep schools across the country. As the competitive nature of the 11+ grows, more and more families are opting for the 7+ for their school of choice for a perhaps more seamless transition into that school’s secondary school.
In any case, basics in comprehension, spelling, writing, dictation, mental arithmetic, problem solving and reasoning are the most commonly required skills. One of our Trusted Tutors will assess where your child is at in these various areas and then a plan can be made to address any areas of confusion or to teach any new topics. At this age we find it key that learning remains fun and productive, so this is also factored in. To this effect, we have a range of materials that are suitable for learning these skills and which our pupils love.
11+
Finding the right secondary school for your child can be a daunting process and preparing for the 11+ exam can be a challenge. Typically, the paper is a ‘watered-down’ GCSE paper and can include English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning as well as an interview by the school. The school may have a set list of topics for your child to prepare. In every case, an assessment will be carried out to see where your child is at and a plan put together to help address any areas of confusion, to reinforce any topics that your child feels less confident in and to teach any necessary topics that haven’t been covered and are therefore completely new.
Each part of the 7+ and 11+ process can be practised and studied with a Trusted Tutor including the school interview as needed. We can also help with getting in touch with the school for any topic lists and past papers. Just get in touch and let us know what you need.
The 13+ Common Entrance examination is an entrance examination used by many of the top prep and independent senior schools in the UK. The tests have an academic focus in the core subjects and are set by the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB) in various different subjects. Similar to GCSEs there is a common set of papers for all schools – that is why it is called the Common Entrance exam and the tests are all taken on the same dates nationwide.
To prepare, start by letting the team at Trusted Tutors know which school you are planning your child to sit the Common Entrance exam for so that the Trusted Tutor will know the exact subjects to focus on for that particular school.
An assessment will be carried out in each of these areas to see where your child is currently at and a plan put together to address any areas of confusion, to reinforce areas that they are less confident in and to teach any new material. Preparation for the Common Entrance can also be an excellent preparation for the GCSEs. The study done at this stage will be valuable.

With GCSEs, the earlier you start preparing the better. Our process is simple. First, we will assess where your child is at in regards to that particular subject and what they need to know in relation to the syllabus.
Then a programme of study is made, based on the results of the assessments and interview and the target time frame set all of which the student, tutor and parents agree to. This can be modified as the course of study goes on and ensures that the tutoring sessions are focused and relevant to the overall target of GCSE success.
Once the confusions listed on the programme of study are addressed, the student should start feeling brighter about the subject and their ability in the subject will increase. This is applicable across all GCSE subjects.
Our tutors are very experienced in preparing for the GCSE and will be familiar with your child’s exam board and syllabus.

A-level
Advanced level qualifications (known as A levels) are subject based qualifications that can lead to university, further study, training or work. Typically, students study three or more A levels over two years and they are usually assessed by a series of examinations.
Our process to help prepare students for the A levels is simple: we do assessments to ascertain exactly where the student is at as well as an informal interview where the student can communicate any areas they know they need help with. Then, a plan is made with what areas specifically need attention and the timeframe required and then the lessons begin! Once these areas that need attention are addressed, the student should start feeling brighter about the subject and their ability in the subject will increase. Our Trusted Tutor will be familiar with your child’s exam board and also be qualified and experienced in tutoring that particular A-level.
International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a two-year educational programme primarily aimed at 16-19 years olds for access to university and work. It is recognised by 140 countries around the world. The IB syllabus is clearly laid out and our process for support and tuition for the IB subjects is simple! First an assessment of where the student is at is done as well as an interview to ascertain and pinpoint exactly in which areas they have any confusions or need help.
Then, a programme of study is made based on the results of the assessments and interview and the target time frame set, all of which the student, tutor and parents agree to. This can be modified as the course of study goes on and ensures that the tutoring sessions are focussed and relevant to the overall target of IB success.
Once the confusions listed on the programme of study are addressed, the student should start feeling brighter about the subject and their ability in the subject will increase. This is applicable across all IB subjects and will translate into better grades.
We have years of experience in delivering A-level and International Baccalaureate tuition so just get in touch with what you need.
It can be daunting going back to education. Perhaps your next career step requires a new set of English and maths exams and the last time you studied either of those subjects was 20 years ago! Or you are doing a degree as an adult learner and need some tips on essay writing for academic purposes. Or you are embarking on a professional National Professional Qualification (NPQ) or accountancy qualification. Whatever it may be, at Trusted Tutors we have worked successfully with adults in a range of fields to help them through a course or for a specific exam. Who we've educated with

We recently used Ricardo to support our son with his GCSE Maths preparation and have been extremely pleased with the experience. While we don't yet know the exam outcome, the difference in our son's confidence and understanding has been noticeable. Ricardo has a fantastic teaching style. He worked at exactly the right pace, explained concepts clearly, and had a real talent for breaking down complex topics into simple, easy-to-understand steps. Most importantly, our son really connected with him, looked forward to the sessions, and felt comfortable asking questions when he was unsure. I would highly recommend Ricardo and Trusted Teachers to any parent looking for high-quality maths tuition. We have been very impressed with the support provided and will almost certainly be returning when our daughter starts preparing for her GCSEs.
